Getting around with professionals
Dr. Werner Weiglein, a German, owner and founder of The
Baliem Valley Resort, is one of the worlds top rated authorities
on both Papua and Papua Nuigini (PNG). In more than 120
expeditions since 1978 he has visited every corner of
New Guinea. He wrote books, dozens of International articles
and also organized some film documentaries about the island
of New Guinea. Today he invest a lot of his time in the
further development of the TBVR, which is the biggest
tourist-project in the Papua Province. With him one can
easily plan and realize any kind of tour/expedition in
all Papua, either to the snow covered glacier-peaks or
into the stoneage world of the hidden lowland jungles.
Room
Facilities :
The resort offers 15 beautiful designed rooms which impress
a strong Papua atmosphere and reflect a tastfull balance
of local culture and modern craftmanship. All rooms offer
a great view over the vast Resort area and the majestic
Baliem Valley below. The spacious bathrooms are nicely
finished with natural stone walls, handmade wooden furnitures
and completed with all common bathroom amenities. The
roofs are made from local grass and reflect the traditional
local "Honai" - style. All rooms have a super
large sun terrace with comfortable chairs and sun chairs.
Our restaurant is ready to serve you with delicious local
fruits and vegetables from the highlands and a selection
of tasty meals. The "Stoneage-Bar" has the licence
to sell and serve alcoholic drinks and to try one of our
specialitieslike "Headhunters Cocktail" is a
must for every visitor!
Lobby
Restaurant :
The wide Lobby-Restaurant with its big open air sun terrace
offers a phantastic birdseye view over the Baliem Valley.
The perfect design of the traditional building with nice
handmade wooden furnitures impresses all guests and visitors.
A modern TV-DVD and Cd station entertains with a selection
of various films concerning Papuas flora and fauna, certain
ethnic tribes, cultures and some historical expeditions.
Lani-Live-Music and Lani-Cultural-Show is another special
evening entertainment. The Lobby-Restaurant offers a seat-capacity
for 60 guests (including the open air terrace).
NewGuinea-Gallery
The exhibition of different cultural objects in the Lobby-Restaurant,
collected by Dr. Weiglein from all parts of NewGuinea,
is another main attraction for all visitors. The exhibition
includes a collection of rare ancestor-poles from Coastal-Asmat
with up to 8 meters length, dance-costumes, many war-shields,
various wooden statues, weapons and daily live objects.
